BIO - CASH EDWARDS

Cash Edward’s first personal brush with American roots music occurred on the well-documented front porch jams that Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett shared during their college days in College Station, Texas. She moved to Austin and was an avid supporter of the live music scene.

In the mid 80’s Cash moved to Northern California, and found herself spending a lot of time at the legendary artist coop/listening room Freight & Salvage Coffee House in Berkeley. She soon became the publicist. It was there that she made the acquaintance of an up and coming singer-songwriter and fiddler, Laurie Lewis who was just releasing her first national solo recording with Flying Fish Records. They formed a business relationship that would last for more than 25 years with Cash handling Laurie’s publicity and booking. From that start came Under the Hat Productions, a booking agency that Cash founded that became one of the premier American roots booking agencies over the next 18 years.

For the past decade, Cash Edwards, Music Services has focused her attention on business consultation, artist development, and publicity work. She is the publicist for the North American Folk Alliance and was Arlo Guthrie’s publicist during his two-year 40th anniversary celebration of Alice’s Restaurant and his benefit for Katrina victims Arlo Guthrie & Friends, Ridin’ on the City of New Orleans.

As a publicist and consultant, Cash has been working with independent musicians since the early '80's. She has a broad international contact base in the Americana/Folk/Bluegrass/Cajun/Roots music world. Cash is skilled at developing comprehensive media campaigns for special events, tours, CD releases and conference representations.

“As a consultant I enjoy helping bands look at a career path,” Cash says.  “Basically, I take a look at the material they have (website, press, CD's), assess their current situation and make suggestions as to how to set goals and achieve them. As a writer I enjoy writing bios and press releases, working to figure out the particular dynamic of the show or event.”

She helps the artist develop a coordinated press package with biography, press releases and CD one-sheets. And will offer advise on website development including podcasts and video casts to make the artist’s websites interactive and fun.

“I have developed many strong contacts across the United States and Canada as well as in Europe and Japan. Oddly enough the very lands I grew up in and reason for my love of cultural music.”

She attributes her global interest to growing up with an Air Force dad, traveling the world. “We lived in Japan, Germany, England, all over the place," Cash told Joe Gross of the Austin American Statesman. “My parents took us everywhere… and being exposed to all these cultures developed for me a huge interest in my own culture. All this music that I'm into — bluegrass, Cajun, blues, the singer-songwriters — is American music. It's our culture."    XL Fortunate 500 Music Stars - By Joe Gross

“There are others but she had a sincerity and positive attitude that was just addicting and unmatched. When you worked with Cash, you felt that there were no problems that couldn't be overcome. There was always a way to make an event work” -Cybergrass

Cash works to make and sustain a visible presence for her clients through positive publicity campaigns and a solid knowledge of American music.
